Does the new S Class stand with the Bentley and Rolls Royce?

Yes S Class is indeed one of the best luxury cars one can have in his garage and also is the winner of the best luxury sedan by Top Gear 2013. So now the question that arises is that can the S class stand shoulder to shoulder to the mighty Rolls Royce, Bentley and others?

No car can be compared to the Rolls Royce Ghost when it comes to the presence of the car. It’s just like a battle cruiser stand clear to this car when it glides smoothly onto the road. The Spirit of Ecstasy has its own world of luxury. The S Class looks almost subtle. The Bentley Flying Spur is no less than the Ghost, the huge mesh grill and quad head lamps make this beauty picture perfect. The S Class looks modern in comparison to the others. All three have air suspensions and twin turbo charged engines while the New Mercedes S Class uses a V8, the Rolls and Bentley have a massive 12 cylinders under the hood. Keeping aside the differences they all are made for rich people, they all take comfort to a new level with reclining and massaging seats, they all have immense leg room and are very well technologically updated with different goodies. The only difference comes when looking at the brand, the company. But the S class is almost half the price and provides almost everything the big bad boys can.

S Class the Gem of Mercedes

The Mercedes S-class DNA can be traced back to 1951, when at that year’s Frankfurt motor show the German car maker introduced the svelte W187 220 and the W186 300 models. Available in saloon, coupĂ© and cabriolet styles, the 220 was powered by a 2.2-litre six-cylinder overhead cam unit producing 80bhp.

In grander 300 guises, an 113bhp 3.0-litre inline-six propelled the car onto a top speed of 100mph – cementing the 300 as the fastest German production car at that time. Technical highlights included a safety door lock to prevent doors from bursting open and electronically operated torsion bar suspension to compensate the height of the rear wheels under heavy loads.
Fast-forward seven years and the W220 replaced the now-ageing W140 with a completely new design, resulting in a body that was slightly shorter and lighter than its predecessor. The W220 continued the S-class’s pursuit towards ever-improving safety with eight airbags, ‘Pre-safe’ occupant protection system and an automatic child seat recognition system. Automatic cylinder shut-off, ventilated seats and a ‘Keyless-Go’ access system also debuted. Mercedes-Benz also launched the first official AMG-badged S-class in the form of the S55 AMG – armed with a 493bhp supercharged 5.4-litre V8.

In 2005, W221 S-class was unveiled at that year’s Frankfurt motor show, with evidence of a bulking diet - proportions being slightly larger all-round than the preceding W220. Technological bragging rights included lots of ‘assisting’, with infrared Night View Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Park Assist, Lane-Keeping Assist and a proximity control including an automatic braking system.

Choose the Right One!

So many cars to choose from every price range have multiple cars you can choose from. It is one of the biggest dilemmas when it comes to buy a new car. Last year in the high luxury sedan war Audi A8 was the most preferable car to buy and 2 years back it was same with the Jaguar XJ. But this year the game has changed Mercedes has face lifted its flagship model Mercedes S class. It’s been very tough to choose between the BMW 7 Series, Jaguar XJ, Audi A8 and also now the Porsche Panamera to some extent. With Mercedes S class or the S klasse in German having these rivals, the close call is still in between the Audi A8 and the Mercedes S class.

One of the key features when buying such a car is comfort, and both of them have all that you would require from a car of this calibre. If you are looking for sheer comfort and that’s your main reason to buy a car then you should definitely go for the S Class because they are more comfortable and have an optional hot stone feel like massage system and an option of First Class seats in the rear which can go to an angle of 43 degree which no other can go to.  Audi has come up with the matrix lights in the refreshed version of its Audi A8 which are pretty amazing with the auto fading and auto marking functions. If you are looking for sportiness in the car then it’s the A8 which is a better handling car and weighs less than the S class making it better on handling and maneuverability and if you are a technology freak then go for the S class it has 2 12inch TFT screen which control everything in the car and the car is the first to have Full LED lights inside and out. Mercedes S klasse comes with Burmester 13 speaker sound system but the Audi is not at losing her with the Bang and Olufsen 19 speaker music system. This is a tough bet one would play.
All comes to the price in the end if price is a matter but you need luxury then BMW 7 series and Jaguar XJ are good option and then comes the Audi A8 making the Mercedes S Class the costliest of the lot. Hope I helped you in making your decisions a little easier.
